Q&A

Tell us a bit about your journey and what inspired you to become a dietician?

I’m an Australian-born Greek/Egyptian, raised in Dubai, and now based in Switzerland. Growing up with a gastroenterologist father meant I was immersed in gut health from day one. Conversations about food and health were part of daily life, which naturally led me to pursue nutrition and dietetics.

My own diagnosis with IBS made things personal and deepened my commitment to helping others navigate gut issues with clarity. Today, I run Nutrition A-Z, focusing on gut, women’s, and sports health, and I’ve authored a book and co-host a podcast to make science practical and, yes, break the taboo around “poo talk”.

From clinical work to global collaborations, I’ve built a career on translating complex science into relatable guidance. I don’t wait for opportunities, I create them, and that mindset is what continues to drive me.

What does ‘We evolve with human needs’ mean to you from a nutritional perspective?

To me, “We evolve with human needs” means recognising that nutrition is never static. As science advances and our lifestyles, environments, and health challenges change, our approach to nourishment must adapt. It’s about staying responsive, evidence-based, and understanding that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.

How do you view the connection between hydration and human performance; both physical and cognitive?

We have more than enough evidence to show that hydration plays a critical role in both physical and cognitive performance. Whether you're a recreational or professional athlete, even mild dehydration can impact focus, endurance, recovery, and overall function. What’s often overlooked is how deeply individual our hydration needs can be, personalisation is key. Helping people understand that something as simple as proper hydration can make a profound difference is a message that still needs more attention.

Which myths about hydration or supplements do you wish more people understood?

One of the biggest myths is that more is always better whether it’s chugging water all day or taking a shelf full of supplements. Overconsumption doesn’t equal better health. Another is the idea that supplements can ‘fix’ everything. They’re not magic pills. Both hydration and supplementation should support a balanced lifestyle, not replace the basics like nutrition, sleep, and movement. I also wish more people understood that one-size-fits-all doesn’t apply. Needs vary, and context matters.

How do you personally integrate hydration and adaptogens into your daily routine?

Hydration has actually been a weak point for me in the past, but investing in a bottle I love and carry everywhere has made a huge difference. I’m also really mindful of my electrolyte needs, especially during training and in the summer, because I’ve had a history of cramps, so it’s something I don’t ignore anymore. As for adaptogens, I’ve always been a mushroom lover in the culinary sense, and before jumping on the functional mushroom bandwagon, they were already a staple in my diet. The more we learn about their potential, the more I’ve started integrating certain medicinal ones into my routine, always with guidance. While the science isn’t always conclusive, context and dosage matter to me. I take what we currently know and apply it in a way that feels both strategic and safe. I also use adaptogens like ashwagandha cyclically, depending on how stressful work and life are. Ultimately, I’m a big believer in evolving with science while staying grounded in what works personally.

What excites you most about being part of the Mydrate® team and community?

What excites me most is being part of a brand that’s being born at a time when the supplement industry is saturated with noise, hype, and often very little credible input from qualified professionals. Seeing a team that’s genuinely committed to doing things differently and doing them right is incredibly refreshing. As a dietitian, it’s exciting to bring more integrity and trust into this space, and to be part of something that not only fills real market gaps but does so with honesty, science, and human needs at the core. Mydrate is setting a new standard, and I’m proud to help shape that journey.
